This show would like to take you back to the 60’s
to the days when the Motown sound began.
With Motown came Atlantic Bells Records and Stax,
just to mention a few record labels of that era.
This unique sound brought 3,4 & 5 piece harmony
groups together bringing some of the best sounds
around.
We would like to bring some of these sounds to you,
lets go back in time with some of the Soul & Detroit
greats and also the Disco years.
This show is one of the most professional shows in clubland

Simply the best band to emerge in the UK in recent years. We saw
this band at the 'Keeping It Live' showcase at Blackpool in January
2008 and were blown away.

"At every Showcall, there's usually one stand-out moment that gets
you really excited.For me, this year, that came with the appearance
of the band Beardsmith. A family ensemble, complete with
ten-year-old Gill on various instruments, and 13-year-old Alice on
keyboards and electric violin, it all results in a brilliant sound.
The no doubt proud dad drives the unit well and just listening to
Alice play the violin during The devil Went Down to Georgia was
worth the journey alone. Quite brilliant"......

Formed from a bunch of Welsh musicians with years in the
business performing in clubs, pubs, private functions, corporate
functions, festivals, on TV and radio, nationally and
internationally with many well known artists, Captain Jack supply
satisfaction every time.
Behind it all is the powerhouse of the group, drummer and
musical director Brett Sawmy has 20 years of experience working at
all levels in the music industry. Signed to Parlophone with Ether
in the late 1990s, Brett has many hours of recording and touring
experience all over the UK and Europe behind him, touring with the
likes of Meredith Brooks, Alisha’s Attic and Mansun and recording
with many top producers. A respected educator, Brett teaches in
Percussion House, Cardiff and has showcased his unique approach to
the drums at clinics with the likes of Steve White (Paul Weller)
and Andy Newmark (American session legend) amongst others.
Swansea born singer KT Bennett, though only 19, has a wealth of
music industry experience that belies her tender years: she’s been
performing on the Welsh circuit for five years already. A versatile
and accomplished solo performer, she encapsulates Captain Jack’s
approach to its craft: energetic and fun to be around, but coolly
professional with a unique and powerful voice. Katie is as at home
in the studio as on the stage and is currently in talks with a
major star with a view to co-writing original material.
Keyboard player, drummer, vocalist and DJ, Philip Vranch
encapsulates the versatility at the heart of Captain Jack’s sound.
Since he first picked out the opening notes of Scott Joplin’s
The Entertainer on the piano with his brother, Phil’s been
hooked on music. From Chopsticks to drumsticks, he’s
continued to forge a successful career as a musician and DJ,
playing in numerous bands and manning the decks at some of south
Wales’s hottest spots.
Rhys Vranch shares his twin brothers’ versatility: bass, guitar,
keyboards, vocals and DJ-ing are all options for this
multi-talented musician. From busking in Cardiff to big corporate
functions, Rhys has the experience and skill to excel in any
musical situation. His bass completes Captain Jack’s storming
rhythm section and his voice completes the stunning three-part
vocal harmonies that the group is renowned for.
Since hearing the Chili Peppers at the age of five, Tom Colwill
knew the guitar was the only instrument for him. He admits that
when he got his first one when he was nine it dwarfed him; but he’s
grown to become a giant of the fretboard with Captain Jack. From
school bands to Battle of the Bands (winner) and studio work Tom’s
appetite for music knows no bounds and, at 18, that appetite is
still growing. Though comfortable with most styles, rock is Tom’s
first love, and he’s at his happiest in front of the stack, with
the wind of the speakers in his hair.
All the talent that is Captain Jack would go to waste without
the sound and lighting array to really make it shine. With a
sophisticated sound system with up to 20KW on tap the band can
cater for all venues from pubs and clubs to festivals. Add in the
expertise of an expert sound man on the 24 channel mixing desk and
the imagination and programming skills of Andrew Vranch operating
the DMX512 Intelligent Lighting System and you’ve not just got a
band, you’ve got a show.
Captain Jack is a band committed to its craft, and their
repertoire is constantly growing, so, if there’s a song (or songs)

Casual Affair
The long established Casual Affair Cabaret Show Band has proved to
be an outstanding success, winning many awards in the principality
of Wales.
One of their notable achievements was their appearance on a series
of HTV Television programmes under the banner of "Friday Night
Live." On this talent show keyboard player Ian Griffin was the
musical director and was involved with the auditions of many
singers from Wales - the land of song. A panel of national
celebrities including Hughie Green of “Opportunity Knocks” fame
chose the winner. |
